The Independence of South
America
Manantiales also played an important role in the more recent
South American history. In 1817 begun the heroic deed of the
Independence of South America continent from the Spanish colony.
Manantiales served as one of main headquarters for the Army
of the Andes commanded by Libertator Gral. San Martín before
the first battles that resulted in the Independence of Argentina
and Chile and subsequently of Peru. Despite years under extreme
climate conditions, still today stay ruins as evidence of
the legendary Crossing of the Andes. Elements from the architecture
prevailing under the Spanish colony have also integrated to
the Manantiales Project:
