The Independence of South America

Manantiales also played an important role in the more recent South American history. In 1817 begun the heroic deed of the Independence of South America continent from the Spanish colony. Manantiales served as one of main headquarters for the Army of the Andes commanded by Libertator Gral. San Martín before the first battles that resulted in the Independence of Argentina and Chile and subsequently of Peru. Despite years under extreme climate conditions, still today stay ruins as evidence of the legendary Crossing of the Andes. Elements from the architecture prevailing under the Spanish colony have also integrated to the Manantiales Project:

  • Central square

  • U-shaped arrangement of buildings

  • Long open galleries

  • Water canals and green oasis

  • Old mountain refuge appearance
